I am back with another blog post! Today, I want to dedicate this post to an amazingly inspiring woman in hopes of motivating everyone. There are many types of people that you come across in your daily lives. Although I have not had the privilege of meeting this woman, for one reason or another she never fails to help me realize my full potential. This woman is ………. any guesses?
J.K Rowling ( I kind of gave it away from the picture right in the beginning). There are some stories that move you, and then there are some stories which you can’t forget. J.K Rowling is a prime example of hard work and dedication. I am not here to give you an entire biography about her accomplishments, but I am here to highlight one key point in her story. I found an article online, with an excerpt which I couldn’t ignore: “After her mother’s death, Rowling left for Portugal to become a teacher and married a Portuguese TV journalist. They were only married for eleven months, and Rowling was fired from her teacher job for day-dreaming. She was now an unemployed and single parent. She admits to having lived in a mice-infested flat, struggling to raise her daughter on a welfare check of £70 a week. Unable to spend money on heating, she regularly warmed up in cafés, where she revisited the idea of Harry Potter.”
Now you must be thinking..why is she telling us this? I mean you could have read that online on your own…you didn’t need this blog post to restate it for you. The reason why I am telling you this is because I have understood that being able to inspire yourself is the single most important skill one needs in their life. Majority of the time people tend to look for motivation in their external environment, but how long has that lasted?
Yes, it is difficult and there will be days when you feel like giving up. Yes, there will be times when you see no ray of hope, and then you want to give up. The most important part from all this is how you get back up. How will you win the race against yourself? Wake up every morning with a mindset that pushes you to be the best that you can possibly be. I know this is easier said than done, but it is true. The mindset you start your morning with, will be your companion throughout the entire day. It is only YOU that controls your day, and make sure you are satisfied at the end of the day. What is your vision for yourself? Write this down on a piece of paper, and look at it every morning. Another concept which helps me stay motivated throughout the day is the idea of emotions I want to feel when I look back at my life twenty years from now. Was it because I was tired that I didn’t become the best that I could possibly be?
Trust me when I tell you this, I understand how you feel. There are times when you do feel like giving up, and there are times when you feel as if you are not accomplishing anything. There are a couple of things you can do in times like these:
1) Surround yourself with people who are equally as ambitious as you. It may seem like this is not too impactful, but it brings about the best in you. Intellectual conversations with these kinds of people, will give you an entirely new insight on life. Now you must be asking, how can I go about doing that? You need to ask yourself what kind of value you want to bring to your life, and what kind of people you want to spend the majority of your day with. This is very essential, and YOU have to make that decision.
2) Take times of struggle and turn them into motivation. J.K Rowling did not let her circumstances shape her success. Her passion was so strong for what she was doing, that she did become successful. Yes, you may be going through a lot of problems but allow yourself to learn from them. It may seem difficult in the moment, but keep reminding yourself that there is something that will come out of this. Life is meant to be difficult, but allow life to help shape you into a stronger person.
3) STAY FOCUSED. This has to be the most important factor. In every second of your life, you are being pulled in many different directions. Either your friends will ask you to watch a movie, or you may want to get an hour more of sleep. Either you may not want to get out of bed, or you may just want to sit at home and relax. Whatever the reason may be, remind yourself that your vision is greater than all of this. Your day is decided by your vision, and your day ends with your vision.
When your mind tells you to give up, look back at why you came so far in the first place. J.K Rowling literally had nothing when she went to Portugal. As said in the quote above “rock bottom” was her “foundation.” People will reject you either in terms of a job or even in terms of love. People will tell you that you can’t do what you set out to do. People will tell you that you aren’t good enough…BUT were these people there when you defined your vision for yourself? So why allow these people to shape, and mold your vision. YOU know what you want to accomplish, and continue doing it. Often times people tend to listen to others, and let themselves be defined through their lens. Only you know your strengths, and only you can push yourself to accomplish your vision. Don’t compare yourself to others, and don’t allow anyone to take you away from your optimistic attitude.
I am inspired by J.K Rowling, because she kept going. Regardless of what she was going through, and regardless of her circumstances she was able to find ways to accomplish her dreams. She never stopped. I want to end this post with the following question: Don’t you think J.K Rowling may have also questioned herself at one point in time?
