Knowing your passion is truly the best thing that can ever happen to you. At the end of the day you know exactly what you want to accomplish in order to bring about that change for the better. You wake up each day with the hope and dream of getting one step closer to your passion and most importantly it makes you come to life! Maybe this blog post can also help you think about your own passion, and work towards it.
My passion was clear to me from the beginning. I always knew that I wanted to empower women and help them. Now this is not because I am a woman, but because it is the right thing to do. Hillary Clinton once said the following quote which I feel describes the reasoning behind my passion for women’s empowerment: “Probably my worst quality is that I get very passionate about what I think is right.”
My passion for women’s empowerment became clearer to me when the horrible rape case occurred in New Delhi, India in 2012. This case brought into the spotlight how women are REALLY viewed in society and how even after so many years there are still many discrepancies in the perception of women. After the rape case a few people were raising questions about what the victim was wearing during this incident, because in their OPINION this could have provoked the rapists. A few asked why she was out at that hour of the night? On the other hand there were many people who went on the roads and lit candles for her, and this showed me that people do want to stand up for what is right BUT what about those people that make such comments about what the victim was wearing and how late it was?
A new way of thinking has to be established within many societies today. The victim was raped on a moving bus, and she suffered from many injuries. Each day my parents and I would sit in front of the television and hope that she would survive. She didn’t survive, and I found my mother in front of the television screen crying when this happened. When I saw this I realized that a change was NECESSARY. I want to help provide opportunities for women and girls who were never given a chance to reach their goals. These opportunities can range from going to school, or getting a job to becoming financially stable, or learning how to build self confidence so that they no longer have to be a victim of their circumstances. This will allow for society to build more stronger women who are not impacted by what society thinks because they already know what they need to do in order to ignore such comments.
I want you to know that we are a team and I would like to use this blog as a way to start discussions, and to take initiative to make a change in this world. We can create a change in this world for the better together. There are many ways in which we can do this: we can start a fundraiser for girls in villages so that they have the opportunity to go to school, we can help fund a family in poverty so that they have the same opportunities as every one else. Please feel free to message me ideas that you may have.
Now let’s make a change together!
