Many people look at me and always ask me “Are you a Feminist?”
I look at them and proudly answer with a “Yes I am a Feminist.” A few times I have felt a certain type of judgement in their voice, which signals to me that they associate feminism with a negative type of vibe.
Now I am not here to convince everyone to become a Feminist, but I am here to just give you a bit of a background on the word itself so that when the word does come up you don’t go hide behind the couch in order to avoid any one that is a Feminist.
When you get a minute please go watch Emma Watson’s speech addressed to the United Nations where she states she is a Feminist. I mean she sums up the word with the perfect statement: “Feminism by definition is that men and women should have equal rights.” Simply stated that is the one and only definition of the word itself. Any added on definition to the word only takes one away from the true meaning of the word itself. So please don’t fear the word!
To all the men- women are not out to get you. I know a lot of men that are also Feminists, and they are proud to state that. I would like to personally thank those men for being true their beliefs and not changing them based on the opinion of others.
Huffington Post published a very interested article in 2015 titled “What is Feminism?”
As I was reading this article I tried to summarize it in a few sentences. The most appropriate conclusion for this article would be the following: Why don’t we just take a minute to sit down and look at both men and women just as PEOPLE rather than a person with a gender. Won’t that make a huge difference in the way you feel about Feminism and most importantly about equal rights for people? Before being recognized as humans with gender we should be recognized as people. Why can’t every single person walking this earth have the same rights as the person right next to them?
Feminism is not a forbidden word, nor is it a word that should be avoided. It should be made the topic of conversation without any hesitation.

Yes agree so much! It really is that simple, we deserve to be treated as humans, that’s all. It is hard to believe this revolution took so long to happen, it was long overdue.

I’m a feminist but as soon as I begin to describe what that means to me it takes to long. I’m in support of love tolerance and compassion be that black or white female or male child or adult animal or human. But I’m still a feminist because I’m female and I focus my attention particularly on helping fellow females wherever they need it.
