Cafe Conversations

Good Morning friends! I would say I have become an expert at talking with strangers and I seem to think they find some sort of comfort level in speaking with me as well.

The other day I was sitting in a coffee shop and an elder lady walks in and sits to the right of me. I notice that she stays there for a couple of minutes and then she gets up. She walks over the counter to order herself a coffee. By this time another woman had taken her seat. She then took a seat to my left which happened to be a little bit closer than the last seat.

I know I said something funny at that point and I can’t remember exactly what it was but it had made her laugh. We then just started speaking and during this conversation she revealed to me many of her life experiences.

The one thing which really stood out to me was when her face lit up with excitement as she reached over for her bag. With extreme optimism she took out a bunch of bracelets that she had bought before coming into the cafe. She related each one back to a specific person whom she was thinking of gifting them to. As she was wrapping up the bracelets she looked at me and asked me “Which one do you like the best?”

I took a minute and I pointed at a specific black bracelet. She didn’t take even a second and told me that she wanted me to have it. I was surprised and shocked at the same time as I had just met but she expressed to me the impact I had on her.

Sometimes a random conversation and a random meeting with someone can really have the such a great impact. She provided me with so much wisdom about life and I am so grateful to have met her!

Sending a lot of positive vibes your way,

Manisha Sareen
