It is one thing to receive advice when you ask for it, but As a runner, I have learned that receiving advice from others is an excellent way to improve my technique and reach my goals. However, ensuring that the advice comes from someone qualified in the field is crucial. I have come across some people who believe they know everything about running, and their advice can be misleading.
Similarly, when it comes to gym advice, only listen to someone who has been to the gym and knows what they’re talking about. With everyone claiming to be an expert, it’s essential not to follow bad advice.
For instance, I have received some bad advice when it comes to running:
- “Don’t run too much, or you’ll lose all your muscle!” Running can help you lose weight, but if you also lift weights and eat well, your muscles will stay strong.
- “Don’t run too much, or you’ll ruin your knees.” Contrary to what you might think, running can help strengthen your joints and muscles, reducing the risk of knee injuries.
- “You can’t run too much on a vegetarian diet.” This is not true either. Many endurance athletes follow a vegetarian or vegan diet and perform exceptionally well.
As someone who loves running and weightlifting, I continually educate myself on the correct information. Don’t listen to advice from just anyone. Instead, make sure they’re qualified to give it. You can achieve your running goals and become a better athlete with the proper guidance. Have a great day!
