Confidence is an overly used term to define one’s self-belief in one’s ability. The only caveat here is that is confidence then created based on what you want others to portray you as or a solid self-belief in yourself? The confidence I am talking about is referencing the “real” confidence that you have in yourself and not the confidence you portray for the external world.
So, how do you build confidence? Interestingly enough, I used to define my confidence based on the external reactions of other people, and gradually, I started presenting myself with the confidence that everyone knew me for. Still, I realized that at the end of the day, when I would go home, the negative thoughts would cloud my mind again. I started questioning how this kind of confidence is not confidence by its definition.
So, how do you build confidence? Here are three ways to build unbreakable confidence;
1 – Think about your journey of life so far and focus on everything that you have accomplished. Often, we get so caught up in wanting to achieve more that we never take a second to pause and reflect on how far we have come in life. The key here is not to stay stuck in everything you’ve accomplished but to use your accomplishments as fuel for wanting to achieve your other goals. When you remind your mind of your strength, you will overcome the negative self-talk that defines your confidence levels.
2 – Self-reflection. Do you know how many people take the time to sit down and self-reflect? Not many! Make a list of your positive qualities and how they’ve contributed to your success so far. This will put things into perspective for you, and you can always reference this list whenever you need to.
3 – Focus on bettering yourself by setting goals. When you don’t set any goals for yourself, you lack motivation for wanting to achieve success in your life. This is directly correlated to the confidence levels you will obtain. Set 1-2 goals for your life and start working towards them. In the process and even after accomplishing your goals, you will immediately see a difference in your confidence. Sometimes, our confidence is defined by our ability to show ourselves that we can follow through on a goal we have set.
Confidence is ultimately your ability to show up as your authentic self and to be proud of it. When you stop defining yourself based on the opinions of others – you will notice that you will never question your confidence again.
Sincerely,
Manisha
